Study in Ireland

WHY STUDY IN IRELAND?

Ireland is one of the most popular English-speaking destinations in Europe for international students. It offers:

  • World-ranked universities with a strong global reputation
  •  ISafe, welcoming environment for international students.
  • Post-study work visa (Stamp 1G) for up to 2 years after graduation.
  • Pathway to employment and permanent residency opportunities.
  • Affordable tuition compared to the UK or the US.

Education System & Institutions

  • Ireland offers undergraduate (Bachelor's), postgraduate (Master's/PhD) degrees
  • Universities, institutes of technology, and colleges provide many programmes, including in English.
  • International students come from over 120 countries.

Tuition Fees & Living Costs

Tuition for international students varies widely depending on institution and programme. Approximate ranges: €9,000 to €22,000+ per year for many programmes.
Living costs:
  • In cities like Dublin: roughly €1,100–€1,800/month.
  • Outside major cities (smaller towns): lower, perhaps €800–€1,100/month
Example: Overall cost (tuition + living) for many international students is cited as €15,000-€25,000/year in some sources.

Admission & Visa/Residence Requirements

Living costs:

  • You’ll typically need your high school diploma (or bachelor’s for postgraduate applications), transcripts, proof of English proficiency (IELTS/TOEFL) if applicable.
  • Apply early; different institutions may have different deadlines

Visa / Residence:

  • If you’re a non-EU/EEA student, you will likely need a student visa and to register with the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS) or the immigration authorities after arrival. (For immigration guidance, please contact our office)

Work & Post-Study Options

  • Work during studies: Permitted up to 20 hours/week during term for many international students in eligible programmes.
  • After graduation: Non-EU students who complete eligible programmes may apply under the “Third Level Graduate Scheme” (commonly called Stamp 1G) to stay and seek employment for up to 2 years (or longer for doctoral graduates) in certain cases.

Key Considerations & Challenges:

  • The cost of living in Dublin and major cities can be high; accommodation is a major cost driver.
  • Visa and immigration procedures must be followed carefully; proof of funds and documentation is important.
  • For your clients: check that the programme is eligible under the immigration scheme, and that the institution is recognised.
  • Be aware of accommodation availability and rental market pressures (especially in major cities).
